Malaya has been working in GIS for over a decade, and previously worked in municipal governance and the NGO sector before moving into the environmental field.
Malaya is here for the duality of this job, which includes both exciting desktop analysis as well as tromping around in the woods. When at her desk, her work includes managing all aspects of the GIS activities, including cartographic and database standard development, customized GIS development, modelling, mapping and report writing. When in the field, she operates surveying equipment to provide precise locational information for spatial delineation of contamination, species at risk and invasive species, as well as helping out with groundwater/soil/surface water sampling. She thrives on cultivating collaboration, and loves that her job includes so much team work.
Outside of work, Malaya enjoys camping, hiking, beach combing and curling up with a good book.
