Kaitlyn Dawson

Research Biologist

Kaitlyn completed both her B.Sc. (2023) and M.Sc. (2025) in Biology at Queen's University. She joined ESG in September 2025 as an early-career biologist and is eager to apply her academic background to environmental consulting work.

Kaitlyn's undergraduate research examined how viral infection prevalence varies along an urban to rural gradient in invasive plant populations throughout Kingston, Ontario. Her graduate research combined large-scale greenhouse and field experiments to explore the evolutionary and ecological factors that shape plant life history strategies. This background provided her with a strong foundation in biological research including project planning, statistical analysis, and scientific communication. At ESG, Kaitlyn contributes to environmental reporting and risk assessment programs that support management of species at risk as well as invasive alien species. She also assists with contaminated sites projects including field data and sample collection such as monitoring well, soil, groundwater, sediment, and surface water sampling.

Outside of work, Kaitlyn enjoys running, pilates, hiking, and all things outdoors.
